LISTEN Reflect - One of my favorites from this period. Three electricians are hired to regain a short in the Judge’s house.

CORNY CASANOVAS - The Stooges are all engaged to the same gold-digging girl. Told mostly as three seperate stories.

HE COOKED HIS GOOSE - One of their first off-the-mark solo offerings. Larry is a petshop dealer who’s seeing Moe’s wife while at the same time trying to choose Shemp’s fiancée.

GENTS IN A Dilemma - Shemp’s rich Uncle Phineas comes to visit the Stooges who are broke and about to evicted. It is a small painful to peek Emil Sitka gain kicked in the face multiple times. It feels like Jules White duirected it, but he didn’t.

THREE Murky HORSES - The Stooges procure into the political ring as zigzag Kenneth MacDonald (later a deem on Perry Mason) hires them to cast the winning votes.

CUCKOO ON A CHOOCHOO - One of their wierdest shorts. Only Larry & Shemp are teamed, living in a stolen boom car. Moe is the railroad detective hired to obtain the state car. Shemp spends most of his time dancing with an imaginary girl canary. Larry does his best Marlon Brando impression.

1953

UP IN DAISEY’S PENTHOUSE - A re-working of the Curly short “Three Boring Clucks”. Shemp impersonates his dad who is about to marry a golddigger planning to bump him off.

BOOTY AND THE BEAST - A partial re-issue of “Contain That Lion” which includes CURLY’s cameo as a sleeping converse passenger.

LOOSE LOOT - This includes the second half of Gain THAT LION with an all recent first half.

TRICKY DICKS - A top notch detective spoof showing that the writers smooth have the stuff for a pleasurable comedy.

SPOOKS! *** 3-D *** - As pie salesmen, the Stooges are captured by a excited scientist and his gorilla. Needless to say, the pies advance flying directly at us, the audience.

PARDON MY BACKFIRE *** 3-D *** - This is pure wire-up-the-nose Stooge slapstick. When Moe aims the grease gun at the us, the audience, we find it in the face (well almost) .

RIR, SEW & STITCH - (re-issue of “Inform A Song Of Six Pants” from vol.5)

BUBBLE Distress - (re-issue of “All Gummed Up” from vol.5)

GOOF ON THE ROOF - O.K., maybe I have more than one approved in this site, this is the ultimate slatstick as the Stooges try to hook up a television antenna wire to their friend’s TV place.

INCOME TAX SAPPY - Yes, it is that time of year again. Again, the Stooges work seperately.

MUSTY MUSKETEERS - (re-issue of “Fiddler’s Three” from vol.5)

PALS AND GALS - (re-issue of “Out West” from vol.5)

KNUTZY KNIGHTS - (re-issue of “Squareheads Of The Round Table” from vol.5)

SHOT IN THE FRONTIER - One of the last wonderful Stooges shorts made. The three greatest gunslingers approach to town and have a shoot out with the outlaws. The most memorable gags are the lymricks read out on the tombstones.

SCOTCHED IN SCOTLAND - (re-issue of “Hot Scots” from vol.5)

There is enough current material here to earn this spot worth getting. Add to that the inclusion of the 3-D shorts, and you have a “MUST-HAVE” position here. As a devoted Stooge fan I will be getting all 9 DVD sets, but this will be the last 5-star spot.

According to a press release from sony, both the 3-D and 2-D versions of Spooks and Pardon my Backfire will be included, along with viewing glasses! This region will also have several Shemp shorts that have never been on DVD. Goof on the roof, Gents in a Predicament, Income Tax Sappy and Corny Cassanovas to name some. Sony has done a big job on all the previous sets, so the portray quality and sound should be tall.

I was a small hesitant to stare this movie, it seemed like one of the all too original movies where all of the expedient parts are featured in the trailer, and that’s all you’ve got. So not the case. Not only was it a packed theatre at the midnight showing, but there was not any interval longer than three minutes that had a level-headed audience. Nobody could cessation laughing!

From Zach Galifiakanis, we had a stellar display. His ability to play the creepy weirdo is out of this world. His wolf pack speech was astonishing.

3 friends search for the groom after a wild bachelor party that they don’t remember. There’s also a chicken, blow up doll, tiger and a baby in their motel room. The movie was so silly that I was hoping they’d never fetch their friend, I didn’t want it to kill.

Bradley Cooper (Yes Man), Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis work ample together and are sizable fun. The movie itself is also mountainous fun and hilarious. Galifianakis’ plays the grooms soon to be Brother in-law who’s incredibly irregular and not all there. He’s very humorous and steals the expose. Everyone else was in top create too though. Honest observe this movie, it’s the funniest of the year so far.

Eric Campbell looms large in the history of silent comedy on the basis of a mere 11 films. Between 1916 and 1917 he appeared as Charlie Chaplin’s hulking nemesis in 11 of his 12 comedy classics for Mutual, a literal Goliath to Chaplin’s David. With heavy, frowning eyebrows and a slow-burn stare, this huge yet agile Scottish actor became one of the most recognizable faces on the screen and even inspired copycats (one delightful piece of archival footage shows a young Oliver Hardy in a thick black beard blatantly imitating Campbell). In December 1917, on the verge of a brilliant career, Eric Campbell died in a car accident. Writer-director Kevin Macdonald uses archival footage and photos to illuminate his rich career on the British stage and music hall circuit, and interviews paint a portrait of a gentle family man. Macdonald pads out the film with a Scottish-pride slant on Campbell’s success (the film’s subtitle is “In Search of Scotland’s Forgotten Star”) and the reminiscences of Campbell’s granddaughter, pleasant but unnecessary diversions. The film is at its best when examining his gifts as a screen comic, seen in clips and notably in rare outtakes from his work with Chaplin. His improvisational talents show that “Big Uncle Eric”–as he was known to kids around the world–was no mere foil for Chaplin. The traditions of old-fashioned melodrama are given a hip facelift in this homage to the Brill Building era (the late 1950s to the early 1970s) of pop-music glory, providing a perfect match between writer-director Allison Anders and her excellent cast. Illeana Douglas plays a singer-songwriter (loosely modeled after Brill recording artist Carole King) whose life runs emotionally parallel to popular music trends. John Turturro is a stand-in for “wall of sound” producer Phil Spector and Matt Dillon is a thinly disguised version of maverick Beach Boy Brian Wilson. It’s a bit too schematic in the way the central character is always in the right place at the right time, but as a tale of fame and romantic highs and lows in the ’50s and ’60s the movie is funny, touching, and sincere. It’s a lively and loving tribute to timeless music and the colorful characters who created it. –Jeff Shannon

Sandler as Charlie looks like Bob Dylan and acts like Dustin Hoffman in his great dramatic performance. Listening to The Who and The Boss through headphones, playing video games, and continually remodeling his kitchen, Fineman’s escapism disturbs Johnson, who, in turn, feels squlched by his stiflingly normal lifestyle. As the two reacquaint, Johnson is the only person who can help save Fineman from self-obliteration. The story analyzes Post Traumatic Stress with some accuracy, though excess sentimentality undermines emotional scenes. Survivor’s guilt, assessing mental illness, and absolute incapacitation du to grief are all topics covered within the bounds of the enduring friendship forged between these two men. Ultimately, Reign Over Me’s message is one of compassion, as a reminder to treat victims of loss with patience and care. But interestingly, it also pays heed to smaller human tribulations, which are obstacles to healing when left untreated. –Trinie Dalton
